Brazil VacationsWeather & Seasons In Brazil - Best Time To Visit Brazil

Brazil is a huge country (the world's fifth largest country by population and area) located in South America, stretching from Venezuela in north to Uruguay in south, and from Bolivia and Peru in west to the Atlantic Ocean in east on a total area of 3,287,597 square miles (8,514,877 square kilometers). The Federative Republic of Brazil is also one of the most visited countries in America, on the international travel scene being very popular vacation packages to beach resorts and hotels in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, as well as tours to Iguassu Falls and rainforest exploration trips in Amazon region. Cruises on Amazon River, the largest on Earth, increased much in popularity in the last years, so today many foreign travelers take combined tours to explore the rainforest around Manaus and after that sail down on the majestic river aboard of luxury ships.

In a so large country like Brazil the weather has several regional characteristics, while the seasons are specific to the equatorial & tropical climate in the northern side, and to the temperate climate in the southern part (Brazil seasons are opposite to those in the northern hemisphere, namely the spring lasts from 22nd September to 21st December, the summer from 22nd December to 21st March, the autumn from 22nd March to 21st June and the winter from 22nd June to 21st September).

Brazil features four distinct climatic regions: the Amazon basin, the Brazilian plateau, the coastal areas within the tropics and the southern part of the country. Brazil weather features serious variations between these regions, each presenting several characteristics as following: the basin of Amazon River has a typical equatorial climate, the rainfall in some places could exceed 80 inch (2,000 millimeters) per year, there is no real dry season, temperatures are generally comprised between 80-90 degrees Fahrenheit (27-32 degrees Celsius), and the humidity is very high; the Brazilian Plateau is the second largest climatic area being characterized by a wet season (October-April with about 60" or 1,500mm annually rainfall) and a dry season (May–September, when rains occur rarely); the coastal regions along the Atlantic Ocean (where is settled Rio de Janeiro) are characterized by a typical tropical climate with high temperatures, although there are significant seasonal rainfall differences between north and south; finally, the southern side of the country has a warm temperate climate (yet on the shores a distinct colder season can produce frosts), but the area is often affected by invasions of cold air masses from the Antarctic region.

Rio de Janeiro is one of the preferred vacation spots in Brazil, being particularly famous for the samba carnival held yearly at the end of February and for the awesome beaches stretching on the Atlantic Ocean coastline, some of the most famous being Copacabana and Ipanema. Rio is located in the tropical side of the country, and therefore the weather is warm and humid. The peak season is between December–March (when is summer in the region), but in this period the city is crowded and all hotels practice the highest room rates (particularly during the carnival). However, even off season temperatures rarely drop under 70 degrees Fahrenheit (20 degrees Celsius) and consequently the interval between May–October is very good for city tours, shopping, and getting in touch with the local cuisine and culture. In addition, travel deals and vacation packages to Brazil are significantly cheaper.

When is the best time to visit Brazil? The answer depends 100% on the visited region and the season when people take trips. Generally, the Amazon basin can be visited at any time since the weather variations are insignificant, the Brazilian Plateau can be visited at best in the dry season, the southern states are great in summer (from end of December to end of March), while the coastal towns offer the best conditions in the dry season, especially those located in the northern region. There is no perfect moment to explore Rio de Janeiro because vacations in this city are fantastic at any time, yet people looking for rewarding days off on strands are advised to take trips in December and January, those who want to attend the carnival and see the samba parades should come after mid-February, while budget-conscious voyagers interested foremost in taking tours to landmarks and holiday attractions find at any time in the interval April–November discount packages provided even by the most luxurious resorts.
