Is travel to Russia allowed at the moment - has anybody been. I would love to go to St. Petersburg.

In practice, no.

The foreign office advises against all travel to Russia. This will most likely invalidate any travel insurance you have.

Due to the sanctions no airlines are flying between the UK and Russia. You'd have to fly via a country which isn't sanctioning Russia. Turkey, perhaps?

You'd need a visa and an invitation from an organisation in Russia. You'd need to attend the Russian embassy in London for fingerprints, I believe.

The foreign office has advice for anyone intent on travelling against advice:

Think I will be giving that a wide berth then. Such a shame, so much to see. Thank you for your reply.

Probably best for now. Putin won't last forever.

ravel restrictions and regulations seem to change frequently, so it’s best to check official government websites for the latest updates.
