It certainly is Bradford. We went there so Peter could go to a football match. My final clue, which you didn't need, would have been a picture of an old mill and the fact that this place was once known as 'the wool capital of the world.'
The haunted house is Bolling Hall. Bradford supported the losing side in the English Civil War and the population was to be punished, the soldier in charge of punishing them slept one night in Bolling Hall where a ghost pleaded with him to spare the people. Or something like that. I'd need to check my own blog for details, but it's late here.
The place with the statues is Cartwright Hall which is an art gallery. We didn't see inside as it was closed. Its gardens were beautiful.
Your turn, Leics

I spent a few nights in Leeds because a) I'd never been there and b) I wanted to see Saltaire (fascinating place, well worth a visit). I took in Bradford cathedral (briefly, tbh) on my Leeds>Bradford>Saltaire>Leeds bus trip (all free now I've got a pass!). :-)
Where did I see these architecturally decorative bits:

and this rather special carpet?

There is...perhaps surprisingly in a city centre .... some area-specific planting in this place:

where, one early morning, I saw this bird amongst the teasels:

Again, perhaps surprising in this place ( I'm not sure how common the bird is but I've never seen one in any other city centres in this country).
I saw some flying men too:

The interior of the building with the 'special' carpet has remained largely unchanged for around 100 years. There's original interior artwork, woodcarvings and decorative glass as well. It's a 'hidden gem'.
But this place is not Rome:

The flying men are indeed Ikaros & Ikaria (Daedelus & Icarus) but this place isn't in Greece. There are no ancient sites and the only ancient remains are in museums.
The door plaque from St Peter's in Rome isn't in a museum. It's visible from the street, along with other bits of historical architecture... like this one:

I can't recall exactly what the plant was, I'm afraid, but it definitely wasn't lavender. It was a native wild plant, location/region specific (the whole area was planted up with such plants). This place isn't in Europe.
There are some interesting public artworks. Here's part of one:
