Where are you starting from?
For a travel partner I think your best bet is someone from close to where you live. This way you will know you will have something in common AND won't be ripped off somehow!!
Travel agency. My personal preference would be an agency in my own country, preferably not far from my location. This way if you think the agency somehow cheated you you can use your own country legal system to seek redress.
Quick Google type search says that May to September might be better because it will be the dry season.
Check with your State Department or Foreign Office equivalent for SAFETY CONCERNS!

Thanks for your reponse. You are correct. One of the biggest problems of doing anything online is the large numbers of scammers.
