Ever have a trip cancelled because of a natural disaster like a an earthquake, forrest fire, hurricane, etc.? Currently we have a large lake north of my hometown that now has been closed because of a forest fire and all the campers have been told to leave the area. The heat wave in the western USA and our local low humidity of course does not help. Anyone have this happen to you?
Trip cancelled because of natural disaster?
It depends if we include COVID as a natural disaster. Because yes, that did cause a trip cancellation for us as I'm sure it did for lots of people on here.
As far as fires, I can't recall one ever interrupting our travel plans - definitely not a full cancellation. We've been lucky so far I guess. They are a fairly common occurrence around here in summers so it wouldn't be out of the ordinary to have to cancel plans because of them.
Yes, Covid made it necessary to interrupt our trip through Amerika and fligh home with the last available flight.
And at another trip we had to change our route on short notice, 2hours before, because our planned campground was on a possible route of a Tornado.
I have had cruises where planned port stops have been canceled or shortened because of hurricanes. And I have been unable to follow a planned route in a drive because of flooding. I didn't have any trips planned that I had to cancel because of Covid because I had a hip replacement just before Covid and I wasn't sure when I could travel again.
Not me personally but I know some people have had their flights canceled because of a volcano eruption in Iceland.
We were waylaid by a volcano in Iceland. We had to change plans in London and when we landed, they closed all European air space. Fortunately, British Air paid for our hotel and meals for the next five days when we finally got a train to Toulouse.
As far as fires, we live in California and have come close to having to evacuate a couple times. The car was packed and ready to go. It really makes you think about how much of your stuff is really important. We've been through many earthquakes but they build for them around here so they really aren't a problem in newer areas.
