One requirement for entering Thailand from your home country is a verifiable return flight. This is just to leave your own home country airport!

For me, round trip tickets were cheaper for a flight to Thailand than buying one way flights. I have flown to nearby countries from Bangkok several times. Return to Bangkok for my flight home.

  • Thailand is well served by short haul airlines that can get you to distant cities within this country. Train and bus service is pretty good too.

in case your research has missed this, there is a high season for the cost of flights and hotels.

I personally use the same airline company from start to finish for the long haul flights from the US. If you have a frequent flyer association with an airline - check them first! Long flight to Thailand where you can get free miles for future flights or upgrades. When you mix airlines to save a buck or two you could run into problems if weather or mechanical problems come up. Same airline start to finish they take care of you!

Thailand. First time visit, for many tourists, round trip to Bangkok. Visit a beach area good for the month you visit. A visit to northern Thailand, usually Chiang Mai, return to Bangkok a day or two before return flight home for shopping and more exploring. Easy transportation to the city airports.

  • Got your passport?

Your choice.

Never fly long haul directly to Thailand, if they deny you entry in the airport (which happens often) they can force you to fly all the way back to your home country. Better to layover in Singapore or anywhere that is nearby Thailand.

I have been to Thailand for work and holiday quite a few times. Never been denied entry! Where you may be denied entry could be at your home airport if you do not have proof of onward travel. (A verifiable flight out of Thailand!)

From where I live, flying to Singapore to get to Thailand would not be helpful if I really want to get to Thailand! For my flights from the US, there are various stops in between, but I fly round trip with the same airline company from start to finish and have return flights.

  • *I have flown to other countries not far from Thailand but with departures from Bangkok and return to Bangkok. No problems with this too!
