Hello Everyone,

I am planning on traveling and working in Australia around June 2024 using the Work Holiday Visa program. I'll be flying in with around $6-7k, take about a week to network with other backpackers in a hostel and decide where I'll be living for a few months, while also contacting recruitment agencies and employers to find a job ASAP. I was planning on flying into Melbourne, but after doing some research, I found that June is the beginning of the winter season in Australia and employment will be harder to find. ==Are there any cities in Australia you can recommend (based on experience) that have decent employment opportunities in the Winter?==

A few more questions off the top of my head:

Would you recommend bringing a laptop if I'll be staying in Australia for a year? Or would a phone be enough?

I'm only planning on bringing 1 backpack for the trip, what are some things outside the "normal packing list" you wished you brought?

Look up the harvest calendar, which will show you seasons and places where you can do farm work all year around.

Otherwise check the local hostel board or ask the others, who might give you better information.

Stay away from any "fundraising work", which is marketing speech for "annoying people on the street, asking for donations". Same goes for other to good to be true salaries, which always have some catch they don't mention in the ad.
