Are you retired?

Some countries may have a provision for a "Retirement" type entry.

I have friends who have lived in Thailand for years on special retirement visas. You are not allowed to work and must have sufficient verifiable income.

I believe there are cheaper places to live in Asia than Japan.

Most of the time you cannot take a job away from a local citizen.

What reason would you give for staying so long in a different country?

You can also contact the various foreign embassies for their requirements.

Just check the visa information on the website of the embassy of the relevant country in your country of residence.

Assuming you live in Germany:

Japanese embassy in Germany https://www.de.emb-japan.go.jp/itprtop_de/index.html

Chinese embassy in Germany: http://www.china-botschaft.de/

Note that being able to 'finance yourself' (or being retired and able to finance yourself) does not automatically mean you will be able to become resident in a country.

The answer to your question lies in those official websites.

No-one here or anywhere else can answer you with specifics because no-one knows all the details of your specific circumstances.

This is a travel forum. It is not a specialist visa advisory service.

You're welcome.

Have you ever visited Asian countries as a normal tourist?

If you have never been to these countries before, why not just visit first before you pull up stakes and move out of your country?

You also should work out how you will have access to your spending money. Do not travel with a single debit or credit card. Work out a daily budget. Research housing costs, research how you will pay for emergency medical service too! Research driving requirements and customs.

Google up some Expat websites for countries you are interested in.

Up to you!
