If you could live in another country for 6 months or more for the fun of it, what country would it be and why?
Personally, I would choose England. Something about the old English lifestyle that I like. Love to be there for at least one year just to experience it.

Sorry Cottonwood but, tbh, I doubt the 'old English lifestyle' that you imagine exists anymore....apart from our pubs, maybe? But England is still a fascinating country with loads and loads of history....just like the other 3 countries of the UK.
I'd choose Italy. So many archaeological & historical sites and sights to explore, such varied scenery north to south, fabulous food and wine everywhere......and *much* better weather than here!

New Zealand! But I've already done that, so if I can pick the months (November through April), then I'd go for Argentina, exploring all of Patagonia.

Thailand. For a while I had a job that sent me to Thailand for short visits. After retiring early I have also been there on my own a few times but kept my visits to 14 -18 days. (Did not want to leave my house vacant for long periods is one reason.)
Six months would be pretty good. For me, Thailand is cheaper than many other countries I have been to and from there easy to visit nearby countries too! Good transportation for getting around, food is not too bad and most of the time the locals are friendly.
- * A long time ago, when much younger, I lived in Italy for a couple years and in Vietnam for a couple years when in the military. But this was a job, housing provided, etc.

I would definetly live in South Africa. I travelled there before and it was justan amazing country. You can visit great cities like Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town. You also have the possibility to see nice beaches all around the coast and to go surfing and the big aninmal world like in the Krueger National Parc is just incredible etc.
The people are so friendly and always interested in you and are so helpful. There are many people with different cultures and they are often so much happier than people in Europe, even if they have less. I think living there also creates awareess about how good our life is and that we have such a priviege to live as we do. Its also cheaper to live there than in European countries. Of course it can be a little bit dangerous but you have to know where you can go and where not.
I think after living there, you learned a lot about yourself and your life

Someone asked me once where I would go to live if I could live anywhere and I said that I needed to stay right here because my doctors are here and it is too much trouble to find new ones. And I like the area and I have friends here. And I say that even though I have lived for various periods of time in at least 10 different places in the USA.
Although I have visited quite a few countries, and there are many places I would happily go back to spend time there, I think for 6 months, I would have to channel my younger self. I have never been in a place where I only had to figure out something just for myself. Up until I graduated from college, I was dependent on my parents, and I got married immediately on graduation.
Come to think of it, I have gone to live someplace for 6 months - after we retired, we would move onto our sailboat in October and sail south for the winter and come back in March. We did that for three winters, and the last year we did it, we spent the winter in Marathon, FL.
But if I had to pick a different country than my own, and I had to pick one that I had already been to, I would pick Canada. I haven't been to New Zealand, and I would love to go, so I might take a chance on going there to live because I am sure that would be wonderful.

If I could live in another country for six months just for fun, I’d pick Dubai. I mean, who wouldn’t want to swap the chaos of Indian traffic for a place where a car can go from 0 to 100 km/h faster than you can say “tea”? Plus, there’s no shortage of fancy malls, perfect for a retail therapy session that might actually require a map to navigate!

I would go to central France. It's rural and quiet; people are friendly and you can travel a lot of places fairly easily although if I went in summer, it would be fun to just take care of my garden and read a lot. We've rented houses in many different parts of France and I could go to most of them for 6 months. I wouldn't like to live permanently in any place that was very popular with tourists though. Peace and quiet is very important.
