I will be travelling to Costa Rica and the USA in September of this year and would appreciate some assistance regarding travel visas
The first leg of my trip will be to Costa Rica, but I will be transiting through Atlanta - after two weeks I will then be travelling back from Costa Rica to the USA to spend 6 weeks vacation time.
As a UK citizen I am an eligible national of a Visa Waiver Program country, so will apply for for an ESTA. Will the ESTA cover me for all legs of my travel, including entry back into the USA from Costa Rica?

In a word, yes.
Your Esta covers you for multiple entries into the US by land, sea or air for 2 years.
With an Esta you are allowed to stay in the US for a maximum of 90 days per stay
NB An Esta is not a visa. It is the Electronic System for Travel Authorization. It functions as a visa waiver for citizenships & citizens which are eligible.

Hi Leics2
You have pretty much confirmed what I suspected, but I very much appreciate your clarification
You're welcome.
