Can you name the place in the photograph game?

I thought this might be a nice thing to try to keep us occupied. So the game goes something like this:

Someone posts a link to a photo of a place they have been to, and the rest of us have to guess where it is. The first person who identifies the place correctly, confirmed by the photo poster, then has to post the next photo. If a photo proves difficult to ID you can provide clues

I'm going to start with something iconic enough most people should know but am going with a not so typical photo so it's not too easy

I had the same idea but you beat me to it!! This will be great, I know it!

No guesses yet ..... I feel that it you've been there, you'll recognise it fairly easily, but perhaps I've picked somewhere a bit too obscure?

Let's see whether an additional photo helps. If not, I'll start thinking about a clue.

Perhaps we could specify the rules a bit to make participating easier? For example, guessing the country first, then the city or region, before the precise place or object?

I would say that if you know the exact place, then you just guess that, but I don't see any reason why people shouldn't start having guesses that would narrow it down. I expect the way it would work will vary a little depending upon the place of object being guessed. In this one, I'm only really looking for the name of the place, not the name of the little church.

OK, must be time for a clue then....

This place regards itself a capital city, but is not officially recognised as such.
