We are taking a Celebrity apex cruise from Southampton cruise terminal and arriving in England 2 days before it departs. Is there much to do in Southampton ? Should we just stay in London till the day of the cruise ? We will be staying 10 days in London on our return. Is there a train or bus between London to Southampton we can take? We are expecting to land around 5pm

10 days seems a very long time in London, so I'd prefer to spend the extra time somewhere else.
I'm sure Southampton has its sights but with a spare day there I'd hire a car and go to see Stonehenge, plus Salisbury and the New Forest to fill out a day.

it will be our first time in England and even europe so probably safer for everyone if we stay away from driving ourselves! Stonehenge is allready booked on our return to London through the cruise ship. The new forest area looks really nice so i think it will be between that and Salibury. Is lyft or uber available in England in case we are unable to make the right train / bus connections?
During our stay in London we have day trips planned to Oxford and Windsor castle We just figured it would be a good base to stay.
