I feel like I'm researching into the past.
Anyone used the ISIC (student discount card) for travel, for discounts, and found it was worth it - that is, in the last several years?
I see the enormous list of discounts on their website, but am not sure if it makes sense nowadays or not. Nearly twenty years ago it was good, but nowadays nearly every place has student discounts already.

Imo it really depends on where you travel and what you want to do.
In many (most?) countries you won't get student discounts for e.g. transport/event/entrance tickets unless you can prove you are a student. Afaik, if you're a 'foreigner' only an ISIC card will do that.
Hmmm. Ok, interesting. Then it might do something, yet. I'm trying to figure out if my sister can benefit from it right now.
I'm working on a travel plan at the moment with my sister that will leave from Germany and end up in Belgrade (Serbia). Currently, there are several routes (so uncertain where we'll head, yet), aside that it'll be in Europe. My husband and I used the ISIC and ITIC some years ago, but it hadn't benefited us all too much at the time, which is why I wanted to check.
Have you used it, or do you know anyone who's used it in recent times?
I haven't used it personally and my children used it too long ago to be relevant.....but I have travelled to 40 countries (90% as a solo female), always collecting info potentially useful for others, so I do have an idea of how things function.
As you noted, many places do offer student discounts but ...just as with senior discounts... availability of proof is usually an absolute requirement. Age (over 16) alone is not proof of being a student nor would e.g. a student card from e.g. a German university necessarily be widely-recognised or accepted. I'm not aware of any other long-established and widely-recognised proof of studentship apart from the ISIC.
If she doesn't get a ISIC card I think she'll have to accept that at least some and possibly most student discounts simply won't be accessible. She needs to set the pretty small cost of getting an ISIC against the potentially much larger cost of missing out. As I said, it all depends what she/you want to do and where.....
I see, yeah, that's a good point. ISIC is still recognized, unlike I guess a random uni card from whichever country... Okay, I'll see with her about getting one, then. It would be good to lower costs a bit, especially as she's between terms now and prices seemed to have hopped up again.
