Hello fellow travellers! My best friend and I are planning to travel from Sydney (Jan 2019) to Cairns , we are not entirely sure if we will be working depending on cost of other things. Would love your help on what option you guys think will be the cheapest and easiest.
Option 1: Get a travel working visa, work in melbourne, sydney, brisbane, queensland, etc, up to cairns for 6 months. Either using a hop on hop off travel bus pass and staying in hostels OR rent a camper van.
Option 2: Work in melbourne for 4 months. Then, take 2 months and rent a campervan / hop on hop off bus pass plus hostels and travel ONLY no work, up to cairns.
Option 3: Take a 2 month travel trip, no work, rent a camper or use the hop on hop off bus pass and stay in hostels.
Kind Regards

I see no one has replied so I'll give you what little advice I can.
You only get one shot at an Australian Working Holiday Visa. Are you likely to want to go back and use a full year sometime? So may you regret using yours up on a shorter trip?
I'd suggest hostels rather than camper van. You will meet more people that way, and hear about jobs. And for big cities like Sydney you'd have a parking problem.
I would travel for as long as you can. Working extends that, but don't blow your WHV on a short trip; it's good for a year so consider doing that. Or else go for the maximum duration a tourist visa allows - depends what your nationality is but for Brits it's normally 3 months.
Good luck.

Have you already got your Australian Working Holiday Visa? If so you should take the longer trip option.
As for public transport vs private that really depends where you want to go for your trip. If all the places you want to go to are on the bus route than that should be fine but if you want to go to more remote or out of the way places then a private vehicle would be better, though if you want to go cheaper instead of a campervan you may want to consider a standard car and camping. A car would be cheaper to rent and Australia does have a lot of free campsites.
