a torch and a Swiss army knife
a good pair of walking shoes and a mini vacuum sucker to airtight clothes.

and so on.

Maybe you are right.
A torch and good walking shoes is so "normal", that I'd not mentioned it.
But what for should I need a vacuum sucker if I pack lightly.
And what for a hot water flask? And a sleeping bag? It needs a lot of space.

Good guide books have gone the way of buggy whips. That's what I did in the past. But the problem with a guide book is that if it reviews restaurants and hotels, it is out of date before it gets printed. If I have bought a guide (and not just taken it out of the library), I have, in the past, just ripped out the pages that I thought would be useful. I do like to have a paper map and not just Google maps on my phone. But neither a guide book nor a map is really what I would call a travel accessory.

The only real travel accessories I travel with is a scrubber bag as I have found it very useful for making hand washing much easier and quicker, a power cube/board so I can charge all my electronics without having to worry if there is enough power points and this tiny contraption that helps lock doors if they have a dodgy lock. I also carry a filter water bottle which in some countries whose water quality is questionable I would say is a necessity but other countries whose water is safe I take the filter out and use like a normal bottle so then it would count more like an accessory.

Ok, so I'm generally a fairly light packer. I prefer to take less stuff and buy things if I realise I really need them when I get there. However, there is one thing that I take from home .. and that is our Aeropress coffee maker. It's small and makes coffee just the way I like it and it's plastic so it won't break easily. I realise not everyone is going to consider that to be so important, but I do like the consistency of being able to wake up and make a coffee how I want to.

The water flask that I mentioned in my earlier post is something that I bought not too long ago. It as big as a usual tumbler bottle which it can double up as also. Hook it up a power point, and in a minute or two, your hot water is there. Very handy when travelling with infants or for ladies always on the go.
