I am looking to buy some luggage, likely one medium or large-sized suitcase and one carry-on possibly as well. I live in Canada snd was looking for suggestions of where and what to buy. I can't recall buying luggage previously so it is new to me! I am considering various options such as shops, online shopping, or possibly buying it on an upcoming trip to the US.
If anyone can suggest brands, retailers, or both, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi.
I can't advise where specifically to buy. I would try some of the big chain stores for a quick free look.
For a carry on item, check with your airline for specific size requirements.
Look at some of the thrift stores and yard sales. You might get lucky. I am kind of cheap, I have come across some good buys in thrift shops.
I use a couple wheelies now. (Lottery prizes years ago.) They have lockable zippers.
The zippers have closures that take a miniature lock. I use small combination locks that fit the holes. When checking my bags, or wheelie now, I have to remove the locks. I do use plastic zip ties! If TSA or whatever you call your airport security, has to look in the suitcase they cut the plastic zip tie instead of breaking the lock. (My Google search shows that this is allowed but do your own search to verify it. I once, a long time ago, I had one of my bags inspected by security, instead of cutting off the $2 lock they ripped the zipper open!) I like the combination locks for leaving the bag in hotel rooms.
Up to you.

I look at places where the airline employees (pilots and cabin attendants) buy their luggage

I needed a new carryon many years ago when my first one wore out. I looked at luggage stores, outdoor stores that sell tents and things and general stores. I noted it was very expensive and I've watched the way it is thrown about by airlines so I didn't want to pay a fortune. I ended up a Target (an inexpensive general store in the USA) and bought carryon made by SwissGear and I got the soft side because it's more flexible than the new hard cases.
I've traveled all over with it for more than 10 years and it's dirty but works just fine. It's got a zipper arrangement whereby I can add an extra 3 inches if I want more room and don't want to carry it onboard but check it. I do check it but I've never needed the extra space. If you pack a lot, it would be useful.
We travel a month at a time and each take a medium sized backpack and a carryon. You may not want a large suitcase. You do have to carry it around and store it and you probably don't need all the things you would put in it. We carry everything we need for a month and all our painting gear and don't need a large suitcase. We use the backpacks as our carryon and check the carryon bags.

Hi!
I have a hard case luggage with 4 wheels. Before that I had a suitcase with 2 wheels, I have something to compare with, 4 wheels are better and more maneuverable.
Look for suitcases with built-in TSA locks, they are more reliable.
In Canada you can buy at Canadian Tire, in the US you can buy at Nordstrom. or you can buy online at globy.com, eBags
