Hi,

Every now and then a travelguide 'discussion' is started at the travelguide page.
It's probably just once or twice a week, but it contains either spam or a genuine question which belongs in the forums.

On top of that, the real discussions about the travelguide aren't over there, but sometimes in the wikitravel forum page.

I would suggest that based on this it might be better to just get rid of the travelguide discussions on the travelguide page and only discuss things in the forum.
This has been discussed before and I had the impression that this would be changed asap.

Cheers
Mike

Hey Mike,

Yes, this has been on the to-do list for ages. In fact, I actually wrote a bunch of code to get rid of the discussions and replace them with forum discussions... I'm guessing that code is already well over a year old by now, possibly nearer 2 :(

I can't really remember what held it up from being launched at the time, but obviously something did. My development setup is totally out of sync at the moment due to some major changes in the backend, but I'll have a chat with Peter and see if there's some way to get the code over to him for implementation.

Actually, maybe to recap how it was setup for your consideration.

  • move all existing discussions to the Wiki Travel Guide forum.
  • in the Wiki Travel Guide forum, include the topic (pageid) they are about, in the same way this thread about Estonia has been tagged as such.
  • in the travel guide for that page, link to all forum posts in the wiki travel guide forum that include a topic (pageid).
  • to start a new 'discussion', it basically automatically creates a forum thread in the Wiki Travel Guide forum with the right topic (pageid) attached to it.

Added bonus is of course that all moderators for the wiki forum automatically can remove/edit at will.

Does this sound roughly how you'd imagine it working?

Hey Sam,

Thanks. The steps you mention would be perfect indeed!

As long as the discussions on the travelguide page are history I am happy The discussions are now all closed by the way (can't delete the ones with spam either), so might clean up that as well.

Cheers
Mike
