Watchlist Update Notification

Travel Forums Wiki Travel Guide Watchlist Update Notification

If you have added guide articles to your watchlist, from today you will be receiving email notification of any changes that were made to your articles.

The email is sent once a day and will include all the articles from your watchlist that have been updated in the past day with a brief description showing showing who made the changes and how many changes there were.

The previous idea to just have a page on Travellerspoint where you could monitor all the changes has proved not particularly helpful at keeping people up to date. Having to come visit the site regularly to check for changes is, let's face it, a drag. Hopefully this helps keep everyone with a vested interest in an article nice and up-to-date and ensures articles are kept accurate and free of spammy promos.

Let me know what you think of how it works and if any improvements spring to mind.

Works pretty well; just got a notification of an update to the Europe guide and was able to ban the spammer nice and quick! :)

Is there any way you can remove your subscription from these emails, like you can with the forums and just keep it just to "old school" watchlist page on site?

I'm not asking because I necessarily want to do this, just that with both the newsletter and forum updates you can remove yourself from receiving these (in fact, with forum you have to opt-in each time you make a new post on a thread you haven't posted on before).

Would seem to make sense to me to have things consistent if possible.

For now, the only way to unsubscribe is by removing the article from your watchlist. We can see if there is much need to introduce an unsubscribe option. My feeling is that if you don't want the emails, then you probably don't want them on your watchlist either. But I could be wrong!

I don't really participate in the wiki, so don't have a watchlist, but if I did, I really would hate to get forced emails. (I also didn't become a travel helper until I could turn off email notifications for forum threads on "my" countries.)
Choice is always good: some people just use email in a different manner. (And if anyone's subscribed to the atom feed of their watchlist, the emails would really be redundant.)

Ok, fair enough. I've gone ahead and added a couple of ways to unsubscribe.

1. On your watchlist page, there's a form at the bottom where you can turn emails on or off.
2. At the bottom of the emails there is an unsubscribe link. This one will also work if you're not logged in, since it's quite conceivable that there will be people receiving this email who haven't been on the site for a while.

Hopefully that satisfies :)
