Hello,
My partner and I will be traveling to Switzerland and Italy in Sept. We are planning to take a train from Zermatt, pick up a car wherever it makes most sense, and then drive to Ortisei in one day. I think I would like to get the car in Milan but could be convinced otherwise, just trying to make this leg of the journey simpler, and it seems like taking the train to Bolzano sounds so complicated. Will there be a lot of issues with ZTL on the way from Milan to Ortisei? Thanks so much for any insight.
Need some help traveling from Zermatt to Italy
I think on this route a ZTL would be your smallest problem. I looked up almost every possibility but I could not found a doably train-ride from Zermatt to any near city in Italy.
Maybe you could fligh to Bergamo, Milan, Bolsano or Verona? I don't know, you have to look it up.
What are your plans after Ortisei? If you will come back to Switzerland then maybe a rental car for the whole trip could be interesting??
As for ZT's: almost every city/town/village in Italy have such a ZTL in the center. It prefends car for driving in. But all of this ZTL are clearly and conspicuous marked. You cannot just by chance enter one. So I think this is not a problem.
That's great to know that the ZTLs would not be a problem. In looking it up, it seems like there are many train options to get from Zermatt to Milan, we would get an early start then rent in Milan and enjoy the drive!
Hi
i do not train connect in Swiss but i really doubt you can do in one day Zermatt Ortisei via MIlano.
Milano Ortisei is around 4 hours with no traffic so can say it would take 5hours.
Zermat - Milan is around 4 hours by car, so via train something more like 6hours, but i really do not know it is just an assumption.
