Well if you want that level of service you'll need to do your bit by saying what you're looking for in a destination. :-)

I'd go for Sri Lanka too - beautiful scenery, interesting cultural attractions and absolutely amazing food! I'd actually go back to SL purely for the food.

Have a look at MYANMAR - Here's the story on my TP Blogo of one of my trips there. Hope it at least piques your interest.

It's a river cruise - a bit expensive but a great way to travel.

I am off there again come January - lots of beach time.

Happy travels

Steve

I don't know what l want!! Food is definitely key but some culture and history natural beauty and maybe some treking or hiking? Not as bothered about cities but definitely a couple of days to relax off beaten track on beach or somewhere beautiful and peaceful!!!

Only home 24 hours so haven't begun my proper research yet!! :)

Okay...

SL was friendly, I didn't encounter hassle or scams as elsewhere, people genuinely friendly.

I trekked in horton plains np, high altitude so cool. Also went up Sigiriya, recommended. Plenty of Buddhist temples, many with a Hindu influence. Tea plantations, a bit of safari in Yala np, some colonial history in nuara eliya, kandy and galle.

Visitors seem to split into the beach crowd and the travellers who visit the interior. This means you can tack on some beach days at the end. Most seem to do the same basic loop but varying from 5 days to 10, seeing more detail. You could see it all nicely and some beach time in 14 days.

I was there during the tail end of the civil war; maybe further north has opened up now?

If you love nature and beaches, then Sri Lanka is the place to be.

I've decided on Sri Lanka,.. The more l read the more excited l get!

Can anyone advise on booking trains? Do l have to wait until lm there?

Also drivers how much should l be expecting to pay to hire one day rates?

Trying to work out our budget!!!
