Hey!
So I'm flying out to Bangkok in September and travelling round SE Asia, then onto NZ and Aus! I'd like to book a hostel in Bangkok for when i arrive so i can find my feet - can anyone recommend anything? Im travelling alone so looking for somewhere thats good to meet people!
Any advice on the rest of the trip would also be fab!

Do a forum search for posts about "solo woman traveler" or "woman traveling alone" type questions. There are quite a few on this forum. When people contact you for "friend - travel buddy" type meet ups greet them in a public place. (McDonalds, a mall or known location, etc. Not your hotel room!) Think safety first because there are some creepy guys who will take advantage of a young female traveling alone.
In Bangkok hostels and cheap guest houses are not that far apart in price per night.
Some suggestions below:
Suk 11 Hostel. Good location near a Skytrain stop. Interesting area with tourists up and out late at night.

Lub D Hostels are in two locations. Skytrain not too far away.

(Google up Skytrain Bangkok if you are not familiar with it. There is rail service from Suvarnabhumi that connects with Skytrain and subway.)
Do some research for Khao San Road too. Many young people choose that area in Bangkok.

An old fashioned travel guide can be useful too. Know how to handle money, read up on scams, know how to use taxis in Bangkok and how to get from airport. For research using a laptop might be more productive than using a phone. Plan a budget out and know how much per day you can afford for hotel rooms each night.
Read up on visa requirements if you intend to enter Thailand on a one way plane ticket and no onward flight within 30 days. (Proof of onward travel.) Each country has their own entry requirements.

It's always good to travel alone though it's a bit uncomfortable at first but if you always do that then I bet you are used to the usual scenario you encounter.

Have a look under the Accommodation tab on TravelersPoint, use the Hostels or guest house filter & look for ones that are marked as Trusted reviews. They are reviews & recommendations by TravelersPoint members so you could PM then & ask more questions.
This might give you more success in finding what you are looking than just your post.

I am sure there must be many and I am not a female, but a friend of mine who is, recommended me Lamphu House, which is simple but good. Has a nice terrace where you can sit and meet people, they have a small menu and serve drinks there as well. It is not far from Khao San Road, but tucked away on Soi Ram Butri it is reasonably quiet. I stayed there at the start and at the end of my trip (I flew in and out of Bangkok) and liked it as well.
The only downside but that is the same for every hostel/hotel in this part of town is that you need to take a taxi from the airports, bus stations (the official ones) and train station. The BTS and MRT lines stay way out of the center of town.
