I have made booking of Disney Cruise line in February and paid all in May. The said date is 12th August. When I do the check in, I found that the price dropped by 20% which is £800 difference. I have called Customer Service of Disney Cruise but their response is asking me to cancel and rebook but cancellation fee is £26xx. Anyone has experienced this and any advice? Thanks

It's not just Disney...that sort of thing happens with hotels, airlines, package holidays etc too. If there are spaces/vacancies nearer to departure date then dropping rates/fares is normal buiness practice. It's better to get a bit less money for the cabin/hotel room/flight than none at all! That's exactly why 'late availibility' is usually cheaper and why sites like e.g. Lastminute started up.

Operators don't just give people the extra money back and there's no law requiring them to do so. Disney clearly isn't going to just give you the £800 and imo you haven't got a legal reason to chase them up about it.

Best thing to do imo is to just put it down to bad luck, accept that you paid a bit more and learn from the experience.

If the price had gone up by 20%, would you have been willing to retroactively pay the extra money?

There's always a risk of something like this happening, particularly with cruises, planes, hotels and anything else which has a high and unchanging capacity, where profit is only being made if most of that capacity is filled. It's a valuable lesson on what things are actually worth. Your time, and the certainty of being able to take a specific trip might also be worth something. figuring out what that's worth to you, might help inform your future actions regarding such bookings.

Disney has been having some "money" issues over the past few years.

Like mentioned above, sometimes even airlines drop their prices at the last minute. I have been able to get some good prices for flights to overseas locations closer to departure date.

Leaving with empty seats or empty cabins doesn't make any money.

Sorry for your problem.

I look on it as having made a deal I was happy with at that price. I'm protected from price increases. Best thing is to not look at prices afterwards.

The best thing to do with a cruise vacation is to book with an experienced travel agent who specializes in cruises. They can keep an eye on the prices and if there is a significant price drop they can cancel and rebook you at the lower price.
