If you go to a full moon party I would add to avoid spirits and any distilled drinks. Doctoring drinks with what is essentially poison is unfortunately a widespread problem in South East Asia. The stuff can cause brain damage and send you blind. Stick to non distilled drinks like beer or even wine.

Since my last time in Bangkok was 8 years ago, I hope that my recommendation is still useful:

1. Light clothes. You can almost wear anything, anywhere, except 2 places: Palace and Temples, top must have sleeves and bottom must cover your knees.
I live in MidWest area in US, anyway, had to buy new local cheap clothes because it was way too hot and my "American clothes" trapped sweat inside my back.

2. Public transport and taxi are inexpensive. It used to be very safe to walk around Bangkok but again, too hot to walk.

3. Street food tastes better and way cheaper than fancy restaurants.

4. I went to several places/tours: Elephant village, tiger temple, Safari, nongnooch village, floating market and of course, Grand Palace ... They were all great!

Again, my last time in Bangkok was 8 years ago, I have not checked whether those are still existed or not.

Guys, what’s the best option getting from the airport to my hotel?! I’ve booked a hotel called buddy boutique hotel! STA has advised they quite expensive! I don’t think I wanna just turn up, am I best off booking something online?

Where is your hotel located. (Provide the hotel link.)

What time of day or night do you arrive?

Some hotels can be reached by using the Airport Rail Link and perhaps together with the Skytrain. Bangkok has thousands of hotels. (Rail service not available midnight to 6 am. Meter taxis available 24 hours a day.)

Forum search and Google search with your computer will give you some help too. There are some posts on this forum for how to use taxis in Bangkok.

Maybe this will apply if time and location works out.

  • * Over 30 days in Thailand you need a flight out before 30 days is up if you intend to enter with the free Visa Exemption. Otherwise apply for a tourist visa.

Quoting GeorginaSeddon

As Karazyal says, it depends what time your flight arrives.
Add to this that you'll probably be exhausted as you'll get little sleep on the long flight (unless you're one of the lucky ones that can sleep properly on a plane).
I think your hotel is around Khao San Road, which has lots of alternatives but few of them are easy.
The Khao San Road to the Airport Bus is probably the most sensible cheap option (as per Karazyals link) or a taxi if that's not running (although they can be really slow during busy times). I can't remember the Taxi set up at the airport... I'm sure others will if you want to know.
If you weren't exhausted then the airport train and then a bus or even a river bus would be another option, but lack of sleep and a new country can make that a stressful journey first time.

"The biggest scare of it all is I don't wanna go all the way over Asia and not meet any friends and feel alone :("

Hey!

I'm flying out on the 20/06/19 and flying to Phuket! I'm 21 and flying out alone, I'm also bricking it and my whole family are scared something awful is going to happen haha. I'm wanting to make friends to hopefully maybe travel with whilst I'm out there. When do you plan on being down in Phuket?

When I read about or hear about women getting in trouble in Thailand often it is after consuming too much alcohol and then picking up random men! Or being lonely and chumming around with dodgy people. Don't hang around with people who use drugs or you will be rounded up with the dopers too.

Only Phuket? All the way to Thailand just for an expensive beach area?

Popular Hostel. Several places, one is Phuket and 2 for Bangkok.

First time visitor make sure you understand your visa requirement. Know how to handle you money. (In Thailand you use Thai baht for day to day spending. So know how to change your mystery currency to Thai baht.)

ALWAYS read up on potential scams you may encounter.

Don't fall in love with a local guy and send money to him after you go home! (You may not be the only person doing this.)

Good luck.
