Im in the lucky position at 58 of taking a solo 3 month trip to SE Asia
I want to stay in good places , but not so good that I wont meet travellers. My worst nightmare is a 5* full of non traveller couples!
Any ideas on what accommodation, locations will fit the bill?

Hi.
Quite a few countries make up SE Asia. Some are more expensive than others. Google type search can be useful for determining prevailing weather for the month you visit. The passport you arrive with will determine your entry requirements. (Filling in some information on your profile can be helpful.)
This TP Travel forum has some information on Community Travel Guide. See hamburger button, top left, next to MENU.
Southeast Asia - Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Vietnam.
- Thailand is a good first country to visit. From there you can visit nearby countries pretty easy if you want. For me, Thailand is cheaper than Singapore and with more to do. (Bangkok is bigger than Singapore.) Only you know what passport you will travel with. You can visit specific country embassies if convenient or Google up their embassies. Traveling with a one way flight may not be allowed so check. Round trip is cheaper for me when I visit this part of the world.
Hotels. Even "No Star" hotels can have A/C, hot water, TV, WiFi, private bathroom and basic maid cleanup. You must work up a daily budget for hotel rooms and day to day expenses. Eating is cheap unless you feel compelled to choose only expensive restaurants. This part of the world has malls with food courts, supermarkets, Seven Eleven type stores and of course local places to eat at. I can survive on good old cheap fried rice in any part of Asia!
You can check the cost of your flights on the internet. (My preference is same airline from start to finish and to not mix airlines to save a few dollars.) In this part of Asia it is easy to book short flights in person to nearby countries if you want.
What to see and do is up to you. Once in this part of the world you can often book a short tour to various places in person. Usually select a tour or trip one day and leave following morning with pickup at your hotel. Some hotels have travel desks.
Assuming you have a passport and sufficient funds to support yourself. Do not leave home with a single debit or single credit card. Often in these countries you will be changing some of your money to local currency.
In Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines and other places I have come across tourists older than you traveling solo.
When you leaving?
Happy New Year.

On this forum there is a "Message Option" that comes on when you hover over your BLUE sign in name.
Click on your name and pull up the Profile page.
