Hi Everyone,
I'll be flying from Dubai to Phuket in October, with a stopover for around 9 hours in Kuala Lumpur. I fly from Dubai at midnight, landing in Kuala Lumpur at about 8am so I imagine I'll be quite tired. My plan is to land in Kuala Lumpur, catchup on some sleep for a few hours in the airport terminal (there are a few hotels inside) and then get my flight to Phuket at 6pm.
My question is this - Will I have to clear arrivals, go outside the building and then go straight back into departures? I am flying with 2 different airlines (AirArabia & Air Asia) so am I right to think I'll have to check in again at the departures, or will I be able to go through the flight transfer area, straight into the lounge?
Sorry if it's unclear, if I've missed any specifics please let me know!
Thanks!

Will you have a checked in bag? If so you may have to go through immigration and customs to reach the baggage carousel. I think you can check in for Air Asia using their website.

Yes I'll have one checked in bag, and one small hand luggage bag. Am I right in thinking I would have to clear immigration and customs, pickup my baggage and then just go back into the departures? As far as I can see, that's the only way around it?

I am not sure if Air Arabia and Air Asia have any agreement to allow transfer of checked luggage. Some airlines will transfer luggage for you even if different companies if part of their alliance or affiliation. And some just don't do it. When you check in for the first flight have the confirmation number for the connecting flight. Ask at the check in desk if they can transfer the luggage. Or, call Air Arabia.
Someone else will probably have a better answer but this is about all I have.
If you have to pass through immigration free or not depends on your passport. The "or not" might mean paying for a VOA.
