Hello everyone!
I'm going to visit South America for a few months in November and I've been making a list of things to take with me (making sure that everything fits in my bag)

Here is the list of things I'm taking with me (I'm going with a cabin bag only, Osprey Farpoint 40 for the connoisseurs :) ), I would like to have your opinion: are there some things that are too much, some essentials that I forgot ?

Thank you in advance for your feedback!

The list :

TOPS:

- 2 classic t-shirts, 1 compression t-shirt (for sports), 2 short sleeve shirts (summer) , 1 long sleeve shirt (summer/fall)
- 1 down jacket
- 1 waterproof jacket, windproof
- 1 fleece
- 1 hat
- Gloves, Under gloves

BOTTOMS :

- 7 shorts/socks
- 3 pants: 1 pair of jeans, 1 pair of jogging/chill pants, 1 pair of waterproof ski pants (for hiking/trekking at low temperatures)
- 3 shorts: 1 pair of classic shorts, 2 sport shorts
- 2 tights (sport/hiking/low temperature)
- 1 bathing suit

TOILETRIES :

- 2 microfiber towels (1 bath, 1 beach)
- Transparent toilet bag : Deodorant, Perfume, Toothpaste, Shower Gel/Shampoo, Toothbrushes, Nail clippers, Comb (All cabin travel standards)
- Electric Razor

ELECTRONICS :

- Camera + Batteries + SD Cards + Battery Charger + Phone Charger + Electric Razor Charger + Wireless Headphones + Tripod

SHOES

- Hiking shoes, City shoes, Slippers

BAGS :

- Foldable bag 20L
- Dirty Laundry bag

EXTRAS :

- Earplugs
- Sleep mask

With all this my bag is at its maximum capacity
It's a pity I would have liked to be able to carry a DJI MINI SE Drone

I travel with a similar bag. My partner has the Farpoint 40. It sounds like you're putting a lot in there.

6 shirts seems a lot. As does 6 sets of trousers.
Could you cope with just one towel?
It's also quite a lot of electronics. 3 chargers. I've trimmed my kit to 1 usb charger and a smartphone. Electric razor swapped for an old fashioned one. Tripod?

It may all cram in but how heavy is it?!

Hello Andy
Yes I can handle one towel
Does that sound like a lot to you? It's to avoid having to do laundry more often than once a week
The electric razor to have several sizes of blades
Indeed everything fits tightly haha
As for the chargers I should be able to reduce that I will take a look even if it takes almost no space

And the tripod is to be able to take pictures of me because I travel alone ✌️

It's the weight that would worry me. You could do a test run and see what you think. Wear it on the bus into town or something?

Enough underwear and socks for a weekly laundry makes sense (though it's possible to to do these every few nights in the bathroom sink), but I'd manage on a couple of shirts and trousers for that.

It's all personal preference, of course.

Do you have a bit of a first aid kit?

How many shorts and trousers would you take ?

Once full the bag is around 9 kilos
It is a bag that is rather comfortable to carry and I am sporty
For the hikes I would have a smaller bag (20L), I will leave this one at my accommodation

No it's a good point
My mother is a nurse and I'm going to check in with her on this

When on long trips I have a pair of shorts, a pair of walking trousers, and a pair of jeans for something halfway smart. Sometimes the first two may be combined as zipoffs.

I find I end up carrying extra weight for food and drink - lunch, snacks, water bottle. So I need to leave some room for those, and cope with the extra weight.

I'm usually on around 6kg.

I'd be tempted to cut half of the shirts and slacks. I never pack jeans because they take too long to dry when you wash them. A good pair of khakis can be used for hiking and for dress with a jacket. Take a sport coat instead of a windbreaker if you think you'll need to dress up. You can use it as a windbreaker too. That's what my husband does. Otherwise, khakis and a smart fleece should be okay for most restaurants.

Just because you can get it in the bag doesn't mean you will enjoy carrying it for the whole trip. You also may want to buy a souvenir or two and need a place for that. It's annoying to get home and realize you didn't even use half of what is in your bag.
