Is glamping worth the hype, or is it just a fancy version of camping?

If it is worth is a personal decision. For me it would be not worth. Because if I go "camping", then it is "camping", means in the nature. And if I want comfort, then I go to any hotel, maybe with spa, but not Glamping.

Camping with amenities. Bed, separate toilets, food provided.
Wow, already did this in the military! 
A long time ago when I was in the military, in lands far away, sometimes my job took me out in the field. Tent, folding cot with a pad, separate toilet area and meals provided!
If I want camping it will be the normal stuff. Tent, sleeping bag, campfire and maybe some running water to clean up with. Otherwise a cheap hotel with A/C, hot water, TV and WiFi will do for more comfort.
We always go "camping" by driving an RV, staying in Nationalparks or State Parks, in the nature. Almost all around the world.
As you have everything you need inside an RV, you don't need any extern toilett, shower, a.s.o. And you can cook your meal by yourself, mayby also having a nice BBQ.
