I've been trying out the solid shampoo bars from lush, they last for ages and you can use them as a body wash and to wash your clothes too. I was worrried it would dry my hair out but it's been fine! Worth trying at least!
I've heard good things about these, and definitely worth considering. I used something similar that I bought while traveling when I went and it worked wonderfully! Less bulk and you don't have to worry about spillage! I might suggest getting a facewash that doubles as a make-up remover as well instead of bringing both.
I still suggest leaving the straighteners/dryers at home.. but then, I did cheat and chopped my hair short last time I went travelling so I wouldn't have to worry about it.
Travel towels are a good bet, but like DocNY I might suggest checking with the larger companies as opposed to buying at an outlet. It will be much easier on your pocketbook. He also made a great point about the camera - you can buy batteries on the go and save yourself the trouble of an extra charger, or at least sub in the batteries in a pinch.
Good call on the tweezers - they definitely saved my feet from splinters when I was clumsy and stubbed my toe a couple of times. As for locks, combination is the way to go.
For girly products: it's helpful to take a few tampons/pads with you, but you can always buy once you're there. Also, if you're on the pill or needle, be sure you can purchase the same one in OZ as back home, and that it won't interfere with any anti-malarial pills you may have to take if you add in a side trip that requires them. You can fast-track on some pills as well so that you only get your period once every 3 months or so as well, which can be helpful while travelling. I have also heard from some women that a menstrual cup is useful.. personally, I don't think I would be comfortable using this, but it's a personal choice and is another option for you.

get a single adaptor that works for all your electrics rather than carrying lots of chargers/adaptors
don't need the pen and paper if you are carrying a smartphone - take your notes on there.
Thanks for the advice
Where can I get an adapter that works for all my electronic stuff? Sounds like a great idea but don't have a clue where to get one!
I like to doodle so pen and paper is a must for me, mainly for long journeys! Doesn't take up too much room though

Helen-
Yeah I am going to Oz too
i'll be there from mid april until june. when will you be there and where you going? I'm starting in cairns and working my way down- going solo, eek!
I wouldn't be happy without my straightners! I packed my bag today as a test, im going in 1 week. and I have loads of room, and still taking a lot of clothes! my bag is 65 litres. Shoes is difficult, might just buy a nice pair of pumps out there though.
I get to Oz on 21st April, landing in Sydney. I'm doing OzIntro for a week then see what happens from there! Probably head up the East Coast so we may cross paths at some point!
I've got everything I'm taking in my bag at the moment minus clothes haha, there's still loads of space though so should be fine! I'll probably end up getting rid of stuff when I pack properly though... I can always buy stuff out there if I really need to.

Haha I've just had my hair cut relatively short but still need my straighteners!
I spoke to my doctor and she's going to give me a years supply of the pill to take with me so I don't have to worry about it when I'm there. I've still got a couple of months worth already so I'll have enough if I decide to run a few packs back to back to skip my period. I've read about that menstrual cup too, really don't like the idea of it personally either!

I've started thinking about a packing list and this has helped with ideas.
