Travel Forums North America Help! UK Passport holder land crossing into Mexico from USA

I’m headed to Mexico and crossing from the USA by land into Mexico at the Tijuana crossing but cant work out if I need a visa. The uk gov website says I need one but other websites say I can just fill out a form at the border. I’ve tried emailing the Mexican embassy in London but no reply & if I phone them they just say I have to email in. Has anyone with a UK passport crossed the border recently and confirm what they did?

The official UK government website does not say you need a visa to enter Mexico? It says:

>British nationals entering Mexico by land must fill in an immigration form online. (my underline)

https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/mexico/entry-requirements

The immigration form is linked on the page above.

British citizens must have an Esta or a US visa to enter the US.

Yea I have seen that but when you try to fill out the form the Tijuana crossing isnt on the list and it also says it is free but then tries to direct you to a different website that requires payment & I’m not sure if it’s a scam, the Mexican gov website has an English language option but the payment page is a completely separate web address and all in Spanish with no English version which seems slightly suspect.

>the Tijuana crossing isnt on the list

The crossing direct from the airport is (Conection peatonal aeroportuario Tijuana). The others may not be listed because e.g. there aren't facilities for checking online forms or because more monitoring is required at those particular crossings.

If a crossing point isn't on the list I'd assume that the form can be completed at that crossing point.

It's normal for payment pages to have a different web address. You can copy the Spanish text into Google translate:

https://translate.google.co.uk/

It seems the visitor permit ('tourist cards', 'Forma Migratoria Multiple', FMM) is only free for trips of less than 7 days (I'd assume you have to prove your departure date if it's less than 7 days?)

Ok - thanks for the replies its been useful & along with a couple of DMs & a lot of input from google translate I’ve managed to work through the forms. I now have both an FFM and a Tourist Card so belt & braces. If anyones reading this for help in the future its worth noting that the USA call the Tijuana crossing San Ysidro but the Mexicans call it El Chaparal - worth remembering when filling in the various forms.
