Where did I visit this interesting but creepy old house

with its red bedroom,

old nursery,

and even a ghost room?

In the UK? Actually...looking at the building stone (limestone?) and the lack of tartan...I'm thinking England?

It is in England yes.

Actually most people think of this place as industrial which it used to be. A lot of it isn't really all that nice and could do with some TLC, but I was surprised to find there are one or two lovely parts.

I'll put a second nice one below.

This building with its statues and lovely grounds was also attractive.

I'm going to put up another clue and will check in a couple of hours before bedtime then I'm switching off for the night.

This place has a beautiful cathedral.

It's also got a theatre.

and a town hall.

I'd guessed the place was 'oop North' and was going to suggest Halifax but a) Halifax hasn't got a cathedral and b) I've visited the cathedral in the photo (the Christian site dates back to the 600s but the church was only made a cathedral in 1919).

I only made a quick visit so I don't recognise the first two places.
