Since Virtual Tourist just closed and a bunch of people from there have just joined here, would it be possible to start some kind of Personal Travel pages, where each member could write tips and reports on destinations in a way that others could read them? I mean it worked great on VT for like 15 years, and they had about 1 million members who are all angry that it closed. So perhaps we could use that fact to give a boost here.I see that the Travel Wiki here has had no contributions for 7 years.
Member tips for destinations
- g* I just recommended this guide to you in the other thread as a possible solution for the tips.

That's definitely not true. The recent changes page shows significant edits made just yesterday. Maybe it's a specific page which hasn't been edited for 7 years?
That said, it is true that we don't have many regular contributors to the travel guide right now, so a new influx of people working on it would surely be welcomed.
How important is the "personal" aspect of travel tips? The travel guide is by design a collaborative project, but you're still prominently listed as main contributor to any article for which you've written a significant percentage of the content, and the reality right now is that the world is big enough that there's few people working on the same destination pages.
For reports we have the blogs, but I can imagine that disconnect between the two being rather jarring when you're used to writing these things together...

The "personal" aspect is of highest importance to me, to be honest. That's what I liked best about VT. I am not happy with the idea that others interfere with my writings, and I would not want to interfere with others' writings either. Blogs show one person's view can't be used for comparison with others. The personal approach is what made the VT tips and pages special. I mean, I can look up the basic facts on Wikipedia or elsewhere - but individual tips tell of personal impressions, ideas, notions, opinions, interests, experiences, advices.
Thanks for the tips.
