I'd strongly suggest checking local conditions anywhere in the path of the two recent horrible hurricanes. We have friends near Asheville and their town was devastated. The hurricane went far inland where they are not used to these things.
Right. To echo Beausoleil, Helene all but destroyed poor Asheville. Their water still isn't drinkable nearly a month after the storm.

Excellent, Peter. I would have removed my comment when you cleaned house but was past the editing period.
That sounds like an amazing anniversary trip in the making! 🌟 For a mix of architecture, art, views, and food, I'd recommend Charleston, SC, or Savannah, GA. Both cities are brimming with charm and history. Charleston’s French Quarter has beautiful historic homes, waterfront views, and galleries galore, and Savannah's Forsyth Park and vibrant art scene would also be a wonderful fit. They each have something unique and are close enough to each other to potentially do a day trip between them!

Suggest Charleston, South Carolina, for three or four days. If you had more time and don't mind driving, I'd suggest flying into Atlanta, renting a car, driving to Savannah, then to Beaufort, S.C., on to Charleston and returning to Atlanta. The longest drives -- about five hours each -- are Atlanta to Savannah and Charleston to Atlanta. There are a lot of historic homes in Charleston; and Magnolia Plantation and Gardens is worth a visit. I live in Atlanta and take overseas visitors on that route. I'm now traveling in Japan.
