Hi.
-

If any travel agency contacts you and says they have the best deal - verify it before committing to a purchase!

From the US to overseas or just to another city in the US? If in the US, check prices for train and bus too!

If flying overseas there may be a high season for flights and probably hotels. (When freezing cold in he US many tourists visit warmer locations.) Around Christmas - New Years holidays flights to warmer countries could be more expensive.

If you already have a Frequent Flyer Affiliation with a particular airline, check that airline or their partner airlines first. (More miles means more free stuff later.)

I buy my flights directly from the airline website. (If you try to mix airlines to save a dollar or two you may end up sorry. I prefer the same airline company from start to finish. If your connecting flight is late, and your next flight is the same airline company, they will take care of you!)

So, pull up your favorite airline company website and enter your desired departure day and return date and see what the price is. Vary departure day and time to see if the price changes significantly. For me, usually round trip is cheaper than 2 one way flights.

  • I use local commuter train connections to get to the airport. I don't ask anyone for rides or leave my car at some airport for weeks at a time. I may be at my airport a few hours earlier than necessary but that's me!

From where to where? If going overseas make sure you have your passport and know visa - entry requirements first. For a first time visit to a new distant city or country, my preference is a flight that arrives during the day or early evening vs in the middle of the night. This way you have more choices of transportation, for me easier to adjust to big time changes. Hey, if you pay full price for a hotel room arriving at around 2 am, why not look for arrival times during day hours.

Are you close to Atlanta? A simple free Google type search will give you airlines leaving your nearest airport. Also, there may be information on how best to get to the airport too.

Up to you.

Atlanta, Georgia is the hub for Delta. I have also stopped there on flights with Southwest. But it depends a lot on where you want to go.

The tips and tricks that worked in the past are no longer really valid. Since covid the airlines are struggling - they laid off personnel during covid and now that everyone wants to travel again they have limited flights and can charge premium rates.

Use all the search engines you can find and when you find a good deal, go directly to the airline and book with them. I use kayak.com, the Google search engine and booking.com among others and then go directly to the airline to book. If there is a problem on the way, the airline will take care of you. If you've booked with someone else, the airline will take care of the people who booked with them first and you may or may not be helped. All kinds of crazy things can happen . . . like a volcano erupting and air space being closed for days. We had that happen once and were on British Air and they paid for a really nice hotel in London where we were trapped, all our meals and generally took care of us. We met a lot of people who weren't that lucky.

Good luck. At least you have a really good airport in Atlanta. Not everyone has that either . . .
