"""Straight from Kelowna to airport. Flight not till around 9pm""
So you have to be at check-in about 6 PM. It is a more then 4 hours, counting 5 hours drive from Kelowna to the airport. This means, you have to start early in the morning, because I think you also want to have lunch this day (which need also 2 hours).
And what will happen, if anything goes wrong. There are so many possibilities: a road closing because of an accident or a rock-slide, or you have a flat tire, or a road accident. You know Murphies law: What ever CAN get wrong, sometimes WILL get wrong. It depend only what risk you will take.
For us, after 40 years of travelling all around the world, the rule is, taking as little risk as possible.
Oh, and about the cost of parking in the first days: you only hav to choose a hotel with free parking. And if you have a car this hotel can also be a bit away from the center. You can drive anyway. And so it would be cheaper.

Good advice. Appreciate it might be a bit tight getting back to airport, particularly if there's a problem.
However the issue is fights are already booked. Hotels also booked but I know these could be changed. Can't see a better way of splitting the trip to get our last night closer the vancouver.
We are currently booked into the sheraton Wall Centre, which was chosen as central for downtown and Stanley park etc., but chargeable parking.
