Hellooo,
I currently doing an semester abroad and just wanted to ask you guys, if you have experience with it. Where have you done it and how was your experience
If you have not done one, what would be a country recommendation based on your travel experiences?
Im also thinking about doing my master abroad, so im super excited to hear about your experiences and recommendations.
Thanks for your help

Hello Marie.frl :D,
nice to meet you.
happy to read about your openess in living abroad!
I am also in my year abroad at the moment and think it is a great start to be in a travel forum!
I have done a few travel experiences including a 3 year stay in Shanghai and I can highly recommend it! It is a whole new world and you it will really change your way of thinking and evolve you as a person - the culture is super rich and enhacing!! The people are also very open to toursists and foreigners which makes it easy for you to engage with them.
Just be yourself and everything will be fine. Experiences like these come once in a lifetime - make the most of it

From another comment by shanaschroder20 I see that you are engaged in "a university project about virtual communities!! There we have to actively engange in forums and network with people". I kinda assume the same goes for you, Marie? (Full disclosure: we've seen so many of these over the years that I strongly suspected so already just from your initial post.) If so, it'd be good to disclose that when starting a new thread, since it has a high chance of influencing how people will respond. People on this forum are active travellers, who love helping other travellers, but we hate fake and promotional activities.

Anyway, I haven't personally studied abroad, but I did go backpacking through Australia and New Zealand for two years immediately after finishing my studies, and that was by far the best decision I ever made. It massively boosted my self-confidence. I learned I could handle a whole lot of the mishaps which life would throw my way, simply because I had no choice and no one safe to fall back on (but lots of mostly-strangers which'd be helpful), and allowed me to discover what I actually cared about without the preconceptions of people I'd grown up with. For years afterward, the overall experience was a big benefit when looking for work as well.
I suspect most of these aspects won't be quite so strong when you're studying abroad, since you will still have a fixed support network there, but I'd still expect mostly the same result.
As for countries: I can heartily recommend New Zealand (and Australia to a lesser degree), but I think ultimately it doesn't matter. There might be renowned universities for the subject you're studying which would be good to pursue, but other than that I'd recommend just going for a country that speaks to you in some way. For me, with New Zealand, its nature and hiking options called out to me, while the language and culture made the barrier to entry really low.

hello sander,
yes its true, i am part of a project, but we could chose any community we want. And as i am a student on a semester abroad, im really interested in peoples recommendations, experiences etc. So there are no lies in my post, it was just a question im really interested in
We chose travellerspoint because i think its a nice community to connect with people all over te world and i love travelling and gaining memories in other coutries, so everythin i asked for, is because im interested in.
But thank you for your answer
