Hey, all you Chicagoland people!
My husband and I are going up to Chicago again next weekend--just a brief visit. Trying to think of something to do on Friday night or Saturday downtown that we haven't done before. We've been to the aquarium, checked out Navy Pier, visited the Art Museum (although would certainly love to go every time if I could), Sears Tower, and, of course, shopping on the Magnificent Mile. We are from St. Louis, so there will be absolutely no visiting of baseball stadiums of any kind.
Sacriligious, you know.
What are your favorite things to do downtown?

Hey Amanda,
How about starting off with a nice German meal (and one of my beers) at the Berghoff Restaurant on State and Adams, then seeing Millenium Park with it's unusual statuary and bandshell (north end of Grant Park), then a quick visit to Marshall Fields department store for a look at the Christmas set-up and a shot of Frango chocolates.
Theater, perhaps? the Goodman Theater moved to Randolph St. in the Loop. The Cadillac Palace is just down the block from there. Try metromix.chicagotribune.com/stage/ for all the show listings.
How about down Lake Shore Drive to the Museum of Science and Industry? Comedy Clubs? Transvestite Shows? Chicago has it all
.....Even a World Series winner....(sorry about that...)

Have you been to Lincoln Park Zoo? It's free and they have rennovated once again.

If you want something different for dinner - I can recommend pizza from a different point of view (This place has been around long before I moved there in 1973.):

Have you visited Millennium Park yet?

Okay - so Beerman and I came up with different things to do - that's what I love about him! (Yeah, he's my husband.)

After how many years...? Just a jab back atcha! Bwa ha ha ha!
Those pesky 'Stros. They're usually just a nuisance, a speed bump on the way to postseason. You'd think one last year at Busch... end diatribe...
Hey--tell me about this Transvestite show. Is that at the Shedd? Like the sea lion show? Hee hee!
Humanities Festival! That sounds like it'd be right up my alley, actually. Maybe something to do while hubby does his audition (for an opera company out west).
Lots of great ideas--thanks!

It's The Baton Show Lounge.
I was first taken there in 1980 by coworkers for my going away party. We had a great time. Chili Pepper was the big star and is still performing. My second visit was the night of Beerman's bachelor party - a friend and I went for the show because she had never been. Again, a great time. But, by that visit, The Baton had become one of the stops on the Chicago Attractions tour. Nothing more amusing than watching farmers from Iowa get off the tour bus and sit through a transvestite show. Within an hour, they were all sticking dollars in the performer's g-strings. It was as entertaining as the show itself.
Have a great time in Chicago!!

Until I read this yesterday, I realized I didn't even know who won the World Series this year... Interesting...

What happens in Chi-town stays in Chi-town...
Next time you're down this way, we'll have to take you over to Pop's, the best place to go when everyone else has closed down, but you still aren't done partying, even after the late-night run to the all-night breakfast joint. It's on the east side.

Being from Minnesota, I'm a Twins fan. Does Chicago have another team besides the Sox???
