Why can't people just leave animals alone?
I agree - the photos would be so much better if they showed the starfish where they belong, in a rock pool or similar. Why on earth would you take them out, just for a selfie in which you end up looking stupid and thoughtless?!
Same here ... I just don't get it why they put them out of the water ... stupid tourists who don't know that starfish die !?!
I personally don't see what there is so beautiful about it putting it on your body.
There is nothing more beautiful to swim and see them thrive ... take pictures of that or like Sara mentioned ... in a rock pool, so much more beautiful to be honest!
I guess some will never learn! 
I am not a fan of starfish - I don't think they need that much help and certainly not so much outrage. There are plenty of them and they are predators. Back in the day the fishermen would take them and cut them up because the starfish were eating the oysters. But the starfish would grow a new starfish from each piece so what they were doing was counter productive.
So if the starfish was on the beach, it probably was dead or would soon be dead already. And if it was in a tide pool, it could stand being out of the water for a photo perfectly well.

Not according to the scientists quoted in the article, sadly - it seems some can only survive for a minute or so, which wouldn't be long enough to get these photos.
There are some species that couldn't, but if they were in tide pools, those species that couldn't stand to be out of the water would already be in a bad way. Tide pools are not reliable WRT water retention. Any animals in there need to be able to survive out of the water for a period. The animals usually found in tide pools - Crabs, snails, conchs etc all can survive out of the water.
Since most animals found along the shoreline are adapted to be in or out of the water, it is overkill to be mad at someone for picking one up. Unless she went diving and got the starfish from the bottom of the sea and brought it back, she didn't do anything very bad.
This is an example of unnecessary exacerbation of the outrage factor. There are lots of other more appropriate things to be upset about.

Its quite Annoying to do these thing with species, Need to enforce some laws to safe the animals .Humans first try to annoy animals then when the animal reacts ,they call it dangerous. So we need to aware people from not annoying animal, its for the benefit of the nature .

At the end of the day it is setting a precedent. If you can't even enjoy a starfish in its natural environment how far will you go in harrassing animals for the perfect shot? I've heard some horrid stories of people harrassing turtles in Palau just to have a great insta shot and I think it does come down to a cultural mindset of what is more important. The photo that will get reactions and likes or the welfare of the environment and animals and I do think it starts with the smallest things.

Actually you can make some assumptions based upon the location. It is called critical thinking. I am not one that goes harassing animals for shots. I leave that to the stupid people who try to pet buffalo in Yellowstone Park...we lose a few visitors every year. But sometimes the bleeding hearts actually hurt the animals by giving them human feeling. Example: there was a buffalo calf alone in the park. Instead of leaving the calf alone, the guy loaded it into his SUV and took it to the rangers. Because he did this to try and save the calf, the calf was rejected by the herd and had to be put down. It might have died the other way, but it would have probably been food for another animal in the park. Some people are just stupid and we should remove warning labels and allow nature to get them.

Are you referring to fatalities involving humans from buffalo?
While attacks are common, and becoming increasingly so, fatalities from buffalo attacks are extremely rare. I believe there have only been several deaths from buffalo in the history of the park against 20 or so killed as a result of the park's geothermal pools.
