Hello everyone,
Happy new year!
I and my family are going to Kyoto next month. We are planning to book a place to stay for 4 days 3 nights. And we are confusing whether to choose a guesthouse instead of an expensive hotel. Many pages said it would be interesting as the guesthouse in Japan is traditional and has good facilities.
We’ve never stayed in any guesthouse before so it is kind of nervous for us.
Please let me know which one is a better choice? What might be trouble when I stay in a guesthouse in Japan?
I would be highly grateful to receive any pieces of advice.

Actually most guesthouses in Japan are nice and comfortable, so you don't need to worry about the real living environment of them. I suggest you to choose staying at guesthouses for that it's a great chance to experience Japanese culture. And sometimes the host will help you on your travel.
As to the trouble, I think it should be the culture difference and custom gap. So you need to Google the related info about them.
[ Edit: Sorry, no promos please. ]

I have no experience with guesthouse in Japan we staying most of the time in a hotels. Hotel in Japan isn't very expensive comparing to what we have in Europe
If you prefer to stay in a guesthouse that would be nice, you can see the traditional way by staying in a house and the owner can help you with informations
Japan has a different culture it took me two days before I learned something. I admire Japanese culture and the people, they are so polite.... if you staying in a guesthouse I think you will observe very quickly
