Where to travel for one months with a 3 year old.

I'd like to book a long trip for myself and 3 year old but can't decide where. It will just be the two of us. No particular budget.

I keep floating from idea to idea. The two main different ideas are a Caribbean cruise on one of the big fun ships followed by an organised tour in Costa Rica (although I'm struggling to find a company who will accept my sons age) or doing a cruise in Asia followed by a week in a beach resort and a few days in big city such as Singapore, KL or/and Bangkok.

What would you do and why? We'll be travelling from London, UK.

Just to add for context, my son is very well travelled so very adaptable to change. He's already visited 32 countries.

I have traveled a lot with kids of various ages and the second idea would appeal to me more -- I would like the first option if you substituted a week at a resort in Costa Rica for the organized tour. An organized tour would be my idea of hell no matter how adaptable a 3 year old is.

I think he would be eligible for the children's programs on the cruise and it would be fun. If you had a week at a house on the northwest coast of Costa Rica and then spent a few days in San Jose at the end, that would be my choice.

I've been to Costa Rica twice and I think the west coast is more relaxing and available for children. I was in Tortuguero for a few days and it rained heavily and the day trips were just not suitable for a child of three. Depending of course on when you are thinking of going?

Maybe you should elaborate. Which country or countries are you suggesting, and what style of travel? Just randomly going on buses from place to place with luggage and a hot and bored 3 year old doesn't sound great. Are you suggesting a city or resort?

Beckyboo, yes, Africa is a beautiful contintent with beautiful countries and very nice people. But I would not go there with such a little one. Please have first a look where Malaria is a problem. But there are more other danger of other biting insects.

Did Beckyboo suggest an African trip. I can't tell from the redacted posts. Africa is a big place and there are probably places where one could vacation with a 3 year old. But the initial post didn't mention Africa - at least I didn't think so.
