Hi all. I'm asking this on behalf of my wife.

She is a Hong Kong national with a Hong Kong BNO passport - which I believe essentially counts her as British citizen (without the right to work).
She also has a Hong Kong passport.

About 10 years ago she was denied entry to UK on her BNO and sent home (to Hong Kong) as she didn't have a return ticket upon arrival. They suspected she was working (which she was - but between work visas at the time; her previous visa had expired and her new job was applying). She didn't think about this at the time.

Now about 9 years later (in Hong Kong) her work is sending her on a 1 week visit to the UK office to meet colleagues and share experience.

Will she have a problem getting entry? A BNO passport doesn't require applying for a visa, but if they ask her if she's ever been denied entry, she couldn't lie.

I believe things have changed during those years. Due to the CCP treatment of HK.

I don't know the direct answer to your question but there is now a BN(O) visa to allow one to work and live in the UK.

Since she wants to come here (briefly) to work, perhaps she should apply for one? Then that will give you some idea how the authorities view her.

> A BNO passport doesn't require applying for a visa,

As Andy says, that is no longer the case. Whether she needs a visa or not depends on exactly what she will be doing and for how long. Use the official

to find out.

Her refusal of entry in the fairly recent past will have been recorded, will almost certainly be visible on the border officer;s system and may well cause difficulties if she tries to enter the UK for work purposes without a visa.
