Hi all.

I'm currently 4 months waiting on my waiver (fully aware it's about 9 months)

Question is on the site that I booked the visa appointment (ais.usavisa) it says current status is appointment. Is this usual ? I can't remember from years ago.

Also my status is refused as expected but nothing touched since the appointment.

I think your appointment was a week prior to mine so we should hear around the same time. My status was the same when I applied in 2022 and didn't change until I got the email to send my passport.

Thanks it was 23rd Aug.

My last time round was 2019 and don't remember checking status. The wait continues that's the bit I hate.
Did you just get a one and done visa in 2022 ?

Yes I had my first appointment in Sept 2019 and got a denial letter in the post I think three months later. Second app was in April 2022 and got the approval email 6 weeks later in May 2022, was very fast as they'd only jist recently reopened the embassy to visitor visa. I got a 1 year visa for that appointment. Third app was 6th Sept 2024. Looking at the spreadsheet it's taking around 10 months to get the email for those who have had a waiver before and a few weeks long for first time applications.

Thanks for the info, this is my 3rd waiver hoping for a 10year. Had a one entry visa and a 5 year so far.

Hi all

Just wanted to check, for those who are waiting on a waiver to be approved after being recommended one at the embassy
When you check your visa status online - does it say denied from the date you went to the embassy?
Mine was in October and still says denied
Should I be worried or is that completely normal?

Thanks

Yeah that's normal.

It's completely normal. Unless and until an applicant's waiver is processed & granted he/she has legally been denied a visa.

Hey all. I have had a lot of help in this thread over the years so hoping for some more advice! Husband has his medical booked for 2 weeks time as he has a small drug conviction from 14 years ago now. He has found out he has to have a chest x ray for tuberculosis which is mandatory. He is really health conscious and knows a chest x ray exposes to radiation which can cause health issues later down the line and i really don't think he is willing to have one for no reason. I know the risk is small and could be classed as being silly Has anyone heard of a work around to this. I am thinking I may aswell cancel the medical if he wont have this done as it will be a waste of £500?

Getting an xray is about the same level of radiation that you are exposed to in everyday life.

He is wrong, it's simple as that....but don't tell him in quite that way!

The tiny amount of radiation in one x-ray does not 'cause health issues down the line'. As Ooberj says, a chest x-ray is about the same as 3days of the background radiation we are all exposed to every single day.

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/medical-radiation-patient-doses/patient-dose-information-guidance (and many other sources if he's dubious about government information!)

>i really don't think he is willing to have one for no reason.

It's not for 'no reason'. It's to check he doesn't have TB, which is massively infectious and can often be asymptomatic (i.e. you don't have any symptoms). He wouldn't automatically know he has it so he should think of the x-ray as a legally-required double-check. TB rates are increasing in the UK and the school TB inoculation only lasts for about 15 years.

It's also so he can get a visa and visit the US!!

Depending on where you live (the altitude) you may get more natural radiation than Oober says, and if you do much flying it may be more.
