Red Sea by ship (Cairo to Addis Ababa via Djibouti)

Hi all

Planning a RTW for next year and trying to avoid flights. I'm trying to get from Cairo to Addis Ababa by surface. Seems like there's no way to do this safely (seeking group advice, please)... but going by ship from Port Said-Djibouti-Addis might be an innovative solution? I have seen that it can be done... wondering if:
anyone has done this
and
any notes?

Happy to hear about overland options too.... but focused on the Red Sea at the moment!

There's a direct train from Djibouti City to Addis. It takes pretty much all day, it can often be delayed (camels on the track?) and it's not very exciting but it gets you there.
