After a fantastic winter cycle in Andalucia this past January to March, we are headed back to Spain this coming January and have 9 weeks with our bikes. We are planning to fly in and out of Malaga again but are thinking we will begin our cycle in Tarifa (take a bus there - we found the bus system really good and more flexible and relaxed than the trains. Bikes go underneath in the luggage compartment.) and are planning to head for Sevilla on a different route than we took last time and from there head north on the Ruta de La Plata.

But weather may become an issue as we head further north so contemplating Portugal as well. Cycling in the winter in the Algarve looks very promising. Would like to hear from anyone who has done this or cycled elsewhere in Portugal. We don’t mind hills but want to avoid anything too mountainous and definitely want to stay off busy roads.

(If anyone is contemplating a winter cycle in Spain, I can share my blog link - detailed account of our last trip.)

Be carefull. Malaga and surrounding just suffered from very heavy floodings. I only can link a german website, but you can get an idea:

So before you go you'd make clear if there still are any problems in the countryside.

Thank you, and yes, we are aware of the flooding.
