Hey people,
I have one full day in Auckland (2 nights) in April, and am wondering on things to do. I will mainly be looking to explore scenery, perhaps some architecture and possibly a cultural experience. Im considering taking the free (donation) walking tour at 10am, this will be done by 1, after this i will probably train up to Onehunga and do the coast to coast walk back to Britomart, taking in one Tree Hill, Mt. Eden on the way, possibly trying to fit some time in at Auckland domain, my evening activities are open to suggestions (couple of cold ones would be nice). If anyone has any suggestions on activities or sights i'd love to hear some feedback.
Cheers Guys and Girls,
Andy.

The coast to coast walk would've been my main suggestion, so good on you for already going for that. Just an afternoon is enough to walk it if you set a good pace, but expect to be tempted to explore a lot more off the path at both One Tree Hill and Mt. Eden, which are both gorgeous areas for hiking around. (I've hiked it twice, and both times made it more an all day kind of thing.)
In the evening, it's worth going up the sky tower to watch sunset and the lights turn on over the city. (Tacky and touristy and overpriced; but still somehow just nice that time of day with its gorgeous view over the harbour. Alternatively, if a view of the harbour sounds nice, but the sky tower doesn't, take a ferry over to Devonport and watch the skyline from there. If there's still daylight hours left, North Heads offers even nicer views.)
Ponsonby (to the west of the CBD) tends to be good for having dinner and relaxing in the evening.

Hi Andy.
I've done the coast to coast walk a couple of times - to blow away the cobwebs during jetlag. It’s fine and Mount Eden is a great viewpoint. As an alternative:
Have a look at Rangitoto island. Ferries go from downtown. It’s a nice easy hike to the summit, plus a couple of added attractions: lava tube caves and historic bachs (holiday homes) including a bachs museum near the pier. Depending on the day of the week this may fit in after your walking tour which appears to finish nearby at Silo park. Here's the ferry info: https://www.fullers.co.nz/GetTimetable?from=AUCK&to=RANG&date=2017-02-16

I seem to remember being in my hotel room around mid-night, or late anyway, & being woken up .. I thought I had left the TV on .. I got up to check & the noise was coming from outside .. I looked out the window & down the road there was a huge rubber band bouncing up & down with people going up & down on it, screaming their heads off .. Looked great fun.
Maybe it is still there or those crazy Kiwis have invented something more bizarre to do in the middle of the night.
