My gran's local chippie in Cleethorpes (England) used to have an enormous jar of pickled, hard-bolied eggs on the counter.

Retired now, but when I was a kid some of the local bars that my father would hit up had pickled eggs at the bar area. Also pickled pigs feet in huge jars - yuk!! And another winner, dried salted herring in plastic wraps.
