Introduction
Narita Airport is located in Narita City in Chibu prefecture, Japan. It is the main international airport serving Tokyo. The airport receives approximately 82,000 visitors each day, many of whom visit Narita or travel through there on their way to or from Tokyo[1]. As of 2008, the airport was the fourth busiest in the world serving over 66 million passengers.[2]
This is one of two airports in the Tokyo region, the other being Haneda Airport, which serves domestic flights.
For more information about other airports throughout the world, also see the list of airports.
Getting There and Away
- Rail: From Narita, there are two train options to Tokyo. The Narita Express offers service between the airport and Tokyo Station vary from as little as 53 minutes to 70 minutes depending on the time of departure. The price from the airport to Tokyo station is 3,140 yen in ordinary class. Keisei's Skyliner limited express travels to Nippori Station in 51 minutes and Keisei Ueno Station in 56 minutes. The price of the Skyliner from Narita Airport to Keisei Ueno Station is 1,920 yen. Remember that a JR pass covers the cost of this train.
- There is also a monorail service running between Haneda and Narita airports.
- Bus and taxi service also exists between the airport and Tokyo. However, they are much more expensive and take longer than the trains, so these are not recommended.

Do
Narita airport is a top notch facility with comfortable seating and plenty of amenities. There is a room for showering and sleeping which can be rented short term. Plenty of shops exist in the terminal areas for last minute souvenir shopping. There is also a massage bar (but check early as bookings can fill up during busy times).
Eat and Drink
There are plenty of restaurants. You will, however, pay airport prices for most of your meals. There are Japanese restaurants available as well as familiar restaurants such as Starbucks and McDonald's.
Sleep
There are no hotels near the airport terminals but there are many near Narita train station which is only a 10 minute train ride from the terminals. For short term rests, there is a day room for rent. Keep in mind that for overnight stays, you will need to find a hotel as the airport closes from 11PM to 6AM.
Keeping connected
In addition to pay-phones, you will find both coin-operated internet booths and free wi-fi service throughout the airport. Visit the airport's web site for more information.
