Chartres - Restaurant L'Estocade at 1 Rue de la Prte Guillaume just across the Eure River by Beausoleil
If you walk down to the river from Old Town Chartres, you come to Pont Bouju and cross the river to some wonderful half-timbered buildings. There is a walk along the Eure River here that is fun to take.

Mirepoix - Place Maréchal Leclerc (2) by Beausoleil
We discovered Mirepoix in 1996 when staying at a campground in Belflou. Madame Casanave, the proprietress, suggested it, and driving to it we got our first glimpse of the mighty Pyrenées Mountains. We were entranced with the very medieval looking half-timbered houses and shops that overhung the sidewalks. We've been back over the years and it has become more well known and more touristed so many of the quaint shops are gone and replaced with tourist shops and restaurants, but the charm is still there and the church has certainly benefitted from the additional alms offered by visitors. In summer it is more of a circus, but the rest of the year it's a busy little town that lets you have an idea of what it looked like hundreds of years ago. We drank our first Hippocras there years later. It's a fun place to visit. One time there were pony rides for children and this time they had a carousel. There is always something new and different.

Mirepoix - Overhangs are nice on a rainy day - We discovered in the past, people weren't taxed for the property above street level; hence, the overhangs. They were saving money. by Beausoleil

Saint-Jean-de-Côle - old houses by Beausoleil
Saint-Jean-de-Côle is one of the Plus Beaux Villages of France. They are supposed to have a population of under 2000 and at least two sites of historic interest. The towns have to apply and the local citizens must be in favor of applying. This results in a charming and interesting and very friendly place to visit. We always search them out when we're driving in France. Saint-Jean-de-Côle is a little out of the way, but if you are in the northern Dordogne, it is worth a trip.
