Alongside the Opera House, the Sydney Harbour Bridge is one of the city's most famous structures and one of the world's most famous bridges. It is the world's widest long-span bridge, the highest steel arch bridge and the 4th-longest spanning-arch bridge. It is heavily used by local residents, as trains, cars, pedestrians and cyclists all use it.

A tour operator, BridgeClimb, allows travellers two ways to climb the bridge. The original climb takes you along the outside arch of the bridge to the summit, while a newer climb known as "The Discovery Climb" will take you through the inner part of the art to eventually also reach the summit. Climbers are secured to the bridge by a lifeline and given an orientation and protective clothing before the climb starts. The experience takes three and a half hours.

The less adventurous and cheaper alternative to the BridgeClimb excursion is to climb the south pylon to the Pylon Lookout. On the way up you'll pass a series of exhibitions covering the history and construction of the bridge. This is an excellent option for those with children wanting to climb the bridge.

The bridge is always open to traffic. The BridgeClimb operates from dusk till dawn.
