Amsterdam Schiphol International Airport (international IATA code: AMS) is the main gateway to the Netherlands when you are arriving by plane. Regarding passenger volume, it's Europe's 5th largest airport and the world's 14th busiest. It also ranks high regarding international passenger traffic (including transits), number of flights and cargo.

Getting there and away

Train

Schiphol can easily be reached by train with the Dutch Railways. Other options are the Amsterdam Airport Express Bus (397), an official Schiphol Airport Taxi, a private transfer or a shuttle bus. For more information and tickets, check out: Amsterdam Airport to City Amsterdam It's short ride to Amsterdam and Utrecht, Rotterdam and The Hague are all within maximum an hour of travelling.

Getting around

Although it's a big airport, most of the terminals can easily be reached on foot.

Sleep

There are quite a few at or near Schiphol.

• CitizenM is a relatively new concept/hotel that is right outside the main terminals, with which it's connected by a walkway protecting you against the rain. Regular room prices start at about €70 for a double but regular promotions occur. Rooms are relatively small, but decorated fantastically and smart. Its innovations will surprise you! Good hotel, especially after a late arrival or before an early departure.
