Christiansted is the capital of Saint Croix, the southernmost and largest of the United States Virgin Islands. It's name goes back to the colonial times, when the Danish ruled much of the US Virgin Islands, including St. Croix.

Sights and Activities

• The United States Park Service maintains a 27 acre area, Christiansted National Historic Site, along the waterfront that used to be a busy center along the trade routes.
• Fort Christiansvaern - Well-preserved Danish yellow brick fort from the late 1700s. M-F 8AM-5PM; Sa,Su 9AM-5PM. Closed on Federal holidays. Admission $2.

Getting There

By Plane

Henry E. Rohlsen Airport (STX) is the main gateway and a short drive from the capital. Destinations include Miami, Atlanta, Saint Thomas, San Juan, Anguilla, Nevis, Dominica, Saint Barths, Sint Eustatius, Sint Maarten and Charlotte.

By Boat
